Non-Executive Director Opportunities

The strategy and direction of the Society is overseen by a Board of Directors, the majority of who are Non-Executive Directors.

Our corporate governance arrangements require that the Board regularly considers the skills and experience of its membership and identifies any gaps that may need to be met, whilst seeking to balance diversity matters such as gender, ethnicity and personality.

As part of our development and succession planning processes we welcome applications from business professionals who can demonstrate sound commercial judgement and have significant experience of working in a regulated environment in one or more of the following areas:

• Risk Management
• Retail Banking
• Mortgage Lending

Strategic interaction in a customer-focussed business is an essential requirement for this role.

Any successful applicant must have a capacity for assimilating large quantities of regulatory and financial information and be able to demonstrate that they have suitable skills and business experience that would support their ability to make an effective contribution to the governance of a regulated financial services business, which is run for the benefit of and owned by its members.

Non-Executive Directors are expected to attend 12 scheduled Board meetings per year and a number of additional Committee and other ad hoc meetings. There may also be a requirement to attend regulatory meetings as required by the Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in addition to various relevant seminars and conferences.

All applications for Non-Executive Director Roles will be subject to approval by the Society’s Regulators under the Approved Person’s regime.

To register your initial interest as a potential candidate for a Non-Executive Director appointment please write to the Chairman of our Group Remuneration and Nominations Committee (marked Strictly Private and Confidential) at Manchester Building Society, 125 Portland Street, Manchester M1 4QD.
