Financial Services Compensation Scheme

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), the UK's deposit protection scheme, protects your savings should your bank, building society or credit union be unable to meet its financial obligations. The FSCS can pay compensation to eligible depositors up to a total of £85,000. This limit is applied to the total of any deposits you have with Newcastle Building Society and Manchester Building Society (as a trading name of Newcastle Building Society). Any deposits you hold above the £85,000 limit are unlikely to be covered.

In general, all retail depositors and businesses are covered by the FSCS. However, some exclusions do apply. It will be confirmed on your Annual Statement if your deposits are eligible for compensation.

Basic information about the protection of eligible deposits and the types of deposits and depositors that are excluded from protection are provided in an Information Sheet and Exclusions List, which is available by clicking here.

For specific information about how the FSCS applies to your individual circumstances, please call us on 0161 923 8065. For further information about the compensation provided by the FSCS, refer to the FSCS website at www.fscs.org.uk. A useful leaflet is also available by clicking here.
